My Winter Wardrobe Essentials

Layers are essential for winter, and I’m crushing hard on adding this perfect hoodie!

Winter often calls for layers of cozy, comfy and chic vibes…at least in the Midwest! It can be a process to get it all together and on sometimes, but I always love creating fun layering combos this time of year. Here is a rundown of some of my Winter wardrobe essentials.

Boots

Cold and wet feet in the Winter is a no go! Luckily there are great boot options that don’t sacrifice our style in return for warm and happy feet. Some of my favorites include: Ugg, Sorel, Hunter and Sperry. If you want a little more style, I love the Marc Fisher Shearling Lace-Up Boot. Style Tip: I bought a similar budget friendly pair (often go in/out of stock so check back frequently), and love them!

Coats

Warm coat options are also essential in the Winter, and there are so many great styles to add to your collection. Style tip: I prefer longer length coats to help keep my legs warm…because yes, I’m always freezing! Some coats in my closet include: Canada Goose (major splurge piece!), Teddy Coat, Sherpa Coat, and an Oversized Overcoat. I select my coat depending on the occasion and how cold it is.

Hats, Gloves & Scarfs

Adding a great hat, gloves and scarf to your Winter wardrobe is always a must! Hat wise, I’m a sucker for a cute beanie especially a fun designer inspired one. As far as gloves go, I want something that provides function so prefer a tech pair but also want warmth with not too much bulk. A scarf thrown into the mix can really elevate your look and provide extra warmth, too. My favorite is a cozy blanket scarf.

Sweaters & Cardigans

Your Winter wardrobe would not be complete without some great comfy sweaters and cardigans. I adore several styles but almost always attract to those that are super soft and oversized. Some of my snags this season include: Turtleneck, Long Cardigan, Rib-Knit, Bat Wing, Waffle Knit and Short Cardigan. Style Tip: all these sweaters are affordable without sacrificing quality. I often wait for sales to snag higher priced pieces I’m eyeing.

Jeans & Leggings

The right bottoms will seal the deal on your Winter wardrobe. Like many, I’m obsessed with faux leather leggings in the Winter as they pair perfectly with boots and oversized sweaters, and Spanx are the best in my book…yes, they are 100% worth the price! As far as jeans go, you can’t beat a good pair of skinny style but I am currently really digging the mom jean fit. Style Tip: if you are uncertain on a style of jeans, try an affordable brand first before splurging on a pair you may not love and ultimately not wear.

These are the items that are currently rounding out my Winter wardrobe essentials. As far as colors go, I find myself leaning towards a lot of neutrals as feel they are more versatile for layering, will transition into Spring well and be able to come back into play in the Fall, too. What are some of your Winter must have pieces?

Happy Winter,

Lindsey
